Better mental health care for every young person in Oregon.
An independent nonprofit for Oregon's children, adolescents, and families.
The Coalition of Oregon Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (COCAP) works for better mental health care for young people across Oregon. We do that by supporting, educating, and connecting the child and adolescent psychiatrists who care for them.
Oregon youth are why we exist.
Every young person in Oregon deserves timely, skilled mental health care. COCAP exists to help make that possible, for children and adolescents in every corner of the state and the families who care for them.
Child and adolescent psychiatrists are essential partners in that work. When they are supported, well trained, and connected to one another, young people get better care, closer to home.
Young people and families come first.
COCAP's commitment is to Oregon's children, adolescents, and families. Every program, event, and partnership is measured by what it means for them.
Psychiatrists, fellows, and trainees are at the heart of how we get there, and we welcome them to take part in COCAP's work.
- Youth and families first
- Every decision starts with what young people need.
- Excellence in care
- High standards for the care Oregon's kids and teens receive.
- Connection
- Clinicians who know and support one another do better work.
- Access
- Good care should be within reach, wherever a family lives.
- Trust
- Clear communication and follow-through, every time.
The work behind the mission
- Support
- Mentorship that pairs fellows and early-career psychiatrists with experienced colleagues. A statewide community that reaches clinicians in every region and practice setting. Attention to recruitment and retention, so good clinicians build long careers in Oregon.
- Educate
- Continuing medical education and training that keep care for children and teens current and evidence based, beginning with a spring education program in Portland and growing from there.
- Advocate
- Raising public awareness of what young people and families need, collaborating with other professional and community groups, and lending child and adolescent psychiatry expertise to those working on youth mental health across Oregon.
Built for fresh voices and steady leadership
COCAP is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of child and adolescent psychiatrists from across Oregon. An Executive Director supports the board and runs day-to-day operations.
Term limits
Directors serve three-year terms, up to three terms, so new voices regularly join the board and no one person or small group holds control.
A path to leadership
Officers move from Secretary to Vice Chair to Chair, building experience and knowledge of the organization along the way.
Committees open to members
The Program Committee and the Mentorship and Education Committee shape what COCAP offers. Committee service is a natural path toward board leadership. See committees
A seat for trainees
The board includes a seat for a child and adolescent psychiatry fellow training in Oregon, bringing the next generation into COCAP's leadership. For trainees
Meet the people leading COCAP
